Sending messages to other users

BeMatrx lets you send private messages to anyone on the platform. Here's how to start a conversation.

Starting a chat

  1. Open the BeMatrx app.
  2. Tap the Messages tab.
  3. Tap the new message icon (pencil or plus) in the top-right corner.
  4. Search for the user you want to message by name or BeMatrx ID.
  5. Tap their name to open a new chat.
  6. Type your message in the text field and tap Send.

Sending a first message

When you message someone you haven't chatted with before, your message will be sent as a message request. The recipient will be notified and can choose to accept, decline, or block your request. Your full conversation begins once they accept. For more information, see About message requests.

What you can send

BeMatrx chats are text conversations. You can send:

  • Text messages, up to 4,000 characters each
  • Replies to a specific message
  • Emoji reactions
  • Mentions — type @ to link someone's profile into your message

Photos, videos, and voice recordings are not sent inside chats. Share those as a Moment or a Flash instead.

Delivery and read receipts

A message shows as sent once it reaches BeMatrx. If it fails, you'll see Failed to send and can tap to retry.

Read receipts show the other person when you've read their message. They're on by default and you can turn them off in Settings > Privacy > Read receipts — but it works both ways, so with them off you won't see theirs either. See Pinning, muting, archiving, and deleting chats.

Notifications

When you receive a message, BeMatrx sends a push notification (if notifications are enabled). Message notifications, and whether the text is previewed on your lock screen, are under Settings > Notifications.
