Whisper is a mode you can turn on inside a one-to-one chat. While it's on, messages disappear from both sides after each reply — nothing stays in the conversation.
Both sides have to agree
Whisper is not a switch you flip on your own. When you turn it on, the other person receives a request and can accept or decline. Whisper only starts once they accept.
- Open a chat and tap the menu at the top.
- Tap
Turn On Whisper. - Wait for the other person to accept. You can cancel the request while it's pending.
While a request is waiting you'll see Waiting for approval…, and the chat shows Whisper on once it starts.
How messages disappear
There is no timer to choose. Messages vanish from both sides after each reply, so the conversation never builds up a history. Messages sent before Whisper started are not affected.
Turning it off
Either person can turn Whisper off at any time from the same menu, or by tapping the X at the top. Both of you see a note in the chat when it's turned on or off.
Screenshots and screen recording
Whisper takes screenshots seriously:
- BeMatrx blocks screenshots during Whisper where the device allows it
- If a screenshot is taken anyway, the other person is told — and so are you, if it was you
- Screen recording is detected too, and both starting and stopping a recording is announced in the chat
We record only that the event happened, when, and in which conversation — never the image or the recording itself.
What Whisper does not do
- It can't stop someone photographing the screen with another device
- It can't undo something the other person read before it disappeared
- It isn't a substitute for trusting the person you're talking to
